The clerk’s position is one of the oldest in local
government dating back to biblical times. Each city and county
in North Carolina must have a clerk for its governing board.
The clerk is essentially the town’s historian; keeping the
records of all board proceedings for the use of future
generations. I report directly to the Town Council.
My responsibilities include
preparing agenda packets for the Town Board of Commissioners
meetings and the Burgaw Planning Board meetings. I attend and
record minutes of the Town Board meetings, Planning Board
meetings and the Board of Adjustments meetings. Other duties
include custodial responsibility for all town records, keeping
the Town Seal, attesting all town documents, notification of
press and public of town meetings and proceedings and
maintaining and updating all town ordinances. I also serve as
a liaison between the public and the Town Board. |
