Town Clerk

Greetings from the Clerk’s Office!

The clerk’s position is one of the oldest in local government dating back to biblical times. Each city and county in North Carolina must have a clerk for its governing board. The clerk is essentially the town’s historian; keeping the records of all board proceedings for the use of future generations. I report directly to the Town Council.

My responsibilities include preparing agenda packets for the Town Board of Commissioners meetings and the Burgaw Planning Board meetings. I attend and record minutes of the Town Board meetings, Planning Board meetings and the Board of Adjustments meetings. Other duties include custodial responsibility for all town records, keeping the Town Seal, attesting all town documents, notification of press and public of town meetings and proceedings and maintaining and updating all town ordinances. I also serve as a liaison between the public and the Town Board.

I am a native of Burgaw and this town is entwined in my heart. I have a passion for Burgaw and its citizens. It is my goal to serve the Town of Burgaw and her citizenry with the loyalty and dedication so deserving of my hometown. Remember, I am the link between you (the citizens) and your local government.

Please visit our website often and keep up with your government at work by reading the agendas and minutes. Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions.

            Sincerely,

Sylvia Raynor
