FAMILY BINGO NIGHT JULY 26, 2019

Join us for some family fun as we host the 2nd Family Bingo Night on July 26th at 6:30pm inside the Historic Burgaw Train Depot. The event is open to all ages; however space is limited to the first 120 participants. The event will cost $2 per participant with over $300 worth of prizes given away that evening. NEW LOOK FOR THE GARBAGE TRUCKS AND CONTAINERS

New look to the garbage trucks and roll carts coming in the future!

In November 2018, Waste Industries completed a merger with GFL Environmental. Over the coming months, you’ll see trucks and containers begin to switch to new colors (bright green). All services and pick up days will remain the same.

NO HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE TO BE DISPOSED AT PUBLIC TRASH RECEPTACLES

Public trash receptacles are not to be used for household garbage disposal!

Please remember trash receptacles along our walking trail, parks and downtown areas are not to be used for household garbage and disposal of other items. It is against the law to dispose household garage, white goods, debris, etc. at these receptacles.

We encourage you to share this reminder with your out-of-town friends and family so that outside garbage and other items are not being disposed of at our trash receptacles in the town limits.

If you see this type of activity around town, please contact the Burgaw Police Department at 259-4924.

MOSQUITO SPRAYING INFORMATION

MOSQUITO SPRAYING NOTICE

It's almost that time to begin spraying for mosquitos in town. As a reminder, if you have beehives in the city limits please let Public Works know so we can add you to the list of ‘no-spray’ areas. We want all our apiarists to be aware of the spraying and let us know so we can keep your hives away from the chemicals. Please use this form to submit your request to the Public Works Administrative Assistant at cabbood@burgawnc.gov so we can keep a digital record of where you’re located.

DON'T POUR GREASE DOWN YOUR DRAINS

Help us avoid blockages in our utility system by not pouring grease down your drains.

We encourage you to review our "Best Management Practices for Fats, Oils & Grease" document for tips and information regarding disposal of fats, oils and grease.

 

ROAD CLOSURES DUE TO DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

ROAD CLOSURES The Town’s contractor will begin construction on the Osgood Canal drainage improvement project on Wednesday, March 6th. These improvements to the Town infrastructure will create street and pedestrian closures as follows: • S. Campbell Street will be closed for through traffic from E. Fremont St. to E Hayes St. Local traffic will be allowed for access to businesses and property owners. • Portions of E. Satchwell will be closed for construction but access will remain from S. Bennett St. to access the Pender Memorial parking lot. • S. Cowan Street will be closed from E. Fremont Street to S. Walker St. to through traffic. Local traffic will allowed for access to property owners. • The Osgood Canal Greenway will not be passable in these areas for pedestrian or bike travel as well. These closures will last for up to 45 days and will not affect emergency room access to Pender Memorial Hospital. BURGAW WATER SHORTAGE RESPONSE PLAN

The Town of Burgaw is required to allow public comment on the town’s draft Water Shortage Response Plan for a period of 30 days prior to the adoption of the plan by the Town of Burgaw Board of Commissioners. A draft plan is available at the Customer Service desk at Town Hall, located at 109 North Walker Street or available here. Please submit comments to the Town Clerk at townofburgaw@townofburgaw.com or deliver to the Customer Service desk at Town Hall.

OPEN BURNING IS PROHIBITED IN TOWN LIMITS

Because the town offers public pick up for yard debris, all open burning is prohibited within the town limits, per NC Administrative Code 02D.1903(b)(1)(B).

Please remember yard debris is picked up by the Burgaw Public Works Department each Friday.

The Town of Burgaw is accepting applications for the Planning & Zoning Board. There is currently one vacancy which requires an applicant that resides within the town limits or a qualified non-resident business or property owner. TOWN HALL CLOSING AT NOON OCTOBER 11, 2018

The Town of Burgaw Town Hall will close Thursday, October 11th at 12 noon due to the arrival of Hurricane Michael. We anticipate resuming normal business hours on Friday, October 12th.

All essential personnel, including Fire and Police, will remain operational and available as needed. 

We encourage all citizens to tie down any loose items in their yards including garbage roll carts.

Burgaw declares State of Emergency

BURGAW, NC – Mayor Pete Cowan has declared a State of Emergency for the town effective at 12:00 noon on October 9, 2018.

Town Officials issued this declaration ahead of Hurricane Michael in order to effectively protect the lives and property of Burgaw residents. Officials are urging citizens to continue making preparations and monitor Hurricane Michael closely.
