Our History

Burgaw was named after a group of Indians that resided along a creek in Western Pender County, NC. Burgaw grew from a Wilmington & Weldon Train Depot and was incorporated in 1879. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The county seat of Pender County, Burgaw, NC is located 25 miles north of Wilmington, NC just off I-40. Downtown Burgaw has the amenities required when traveling for business or leisure. Burgaw surrounds you with that nearly forgotten "small-town charm", with good, old fashioned Southern hospitality.

The business community consists of warm and friendly retail merchants and an industrial community that boasts some of the Cape Fear areas best corporate partners. Together they combine to offer a full range of services o the community. Growth is in the near future for Burgaw and the town's goal is to allow for the growth while preserving the essence that makes Burgaw, NC so unique.
